The Power of Plants
Since ancient times, plants have been
used as a form of medicine to cure some diseases. With the advancement of
technology, there was also the advancement of medicine, so nowadays usually is
possible to see some questions like: "Is there still room for traditional
medicine even with the advancement of modern medicine?". The answer to
this question is yes, until now some plants are used and helpful to cure or
help in the treatment of diseases. First of all, a kind of plant that is used
in large scale to improve health is the garlic. The Chinese and Japanese have
used garlic for centuries to treat high blood pressure. Nowadays, garlic has
proven a good tool in the fight against cancer, since garlic helps the immune
system. Second, a traditional plant, very common in the treatment of diseases,
is the ginger. In fact, ginger has been called the "universal
medicine". For over 2000 years, Chinese doctors have promoted the use of
ginger to treat many health problems. The use of ginger can prove many benefits
such as nausea, aids digestions, relax blood vessels and stimulate blood flow,
and reduces fever. Finally, another kind of traditional medicine that has
been used by humanity since many years ago is tea. There are several different
types of tea, just changing the plants used to do the tea. The Chinese have
been drinking tea since 3000 B.C. and believe it helps digestion. Green tea, one
of the many kinds of tea, is used to fight skin and stomach cancer and help the
immune system. Another common tea, the oolong tea is drunk in Korea and other
Asian countries to reduce cholesterol levels after a fatty meal. To conclude,
either in serious cases such as cancer or in cases not as important as a cold,
traditional medicine has shown that it can be a powerful tool in the fight
